Miwako Akatsu's exhibition of new works in nine years since 2014 at our gallery.
The title "KICAGRA," which is the theme of the most recent paintings, is a shortened coined word combining the geometric form "kica" and the gradation "gra".
The shapes of all objects in the world can be expressed by replacing them with geometric forms or a collection of geometric forms, and by adding gradations to them, it is possible to express depth.
These two elements are essential to my painting.
Initially, she started out with figurative paintings of man-made objects such as architecture and cars, then gradually shifted to abstract expression, with curves disappearing from the picture plane.
The current compositional elements have evolved to include only straight lines, gradations, and limited colors.
This may be called minimalism, so to speak.
It is not a mere rehash of past minimal art.
but rather a mix of art and graphics, and a sense of interior design.
This is "KICAGRA," a new expression and challenge for the future.
